India : Developed & civilized nation ?
Last week I went on a vacation with my family to Thailand. I was awestruck by the discipline of people in following traffic rules, the roads, the workaholic nature and the smile they put up on their face. The roads are super flat. No one uses horn at all. No lane cutting. Everyone gives signal, stops at zebra crossing, lets the people cross first. It was one of the most perfect city (Bangkok) I have ever seen in terms of traffic. I didn't see any beggar in Phuket and only 2 beggars in Bangkok (one with no limbs and 2nd with no eyes). The major problem for us on this trip was getting vegetarian food. In breakfast (buffet) 75% of food was non-veg. The only veg food we were able to find was bread and beverages and juices. I told that to the chef there. He made me fried rice with vegetable gravy and bowed down when I said "Kop Khun Kha" (thank you). I have never seen anything like this India. No one actually makes you extra stuff, all they do is tell you to manage. First 2 days at Bangkok were amazing, last two days ....
Some company (Indian) might have sponsored some of their employees and their families (around 25-30 people I guess) a trip to Bangkok and they were staying in our hotel (Manhattan), which was a 4 star hotel. I don't know how to describe them. During breakfast we all used to stand in line, now there was no line. They just gathered around veg counter and just started filling up 2-3 plates at once like they will never get to eat again. My kaki (aunt) found a plate full of watermelons near veg counter, she took one and a voice came from behind "Hey this is my plate" (He took all the watermelons from the counter at once). I don't know what reaction to give, to laugh or roll your eyes looking at that uncivilized behavior. Next, all glasses were empty because each one took around 5-6 glasses for tasting different juices so they filled water in cups. Next, all cups empty. They created so much noise and ruckus that other guests were irritated and started complaining to the authority, building their opinion on Indians.
Next day the same story continued. In fact the level of irritation rose a few more notches. My mom, my 2 cousins and myself were waiting for lift. We were on 3rd floor and wanted to go to 9th floor to our rooms. Three people of the same group wanted to go down with their heavy bags. The lift was going up, they knew still they went inside and crammed in laughing, not even thinking about others. We were lucky that we were leaving that very day because it was becoming difficult to tolerate them.
I wont name of which caste those people were or what were their names, because people tend to form their opinions about that caste of people and start discriminating people (national hobby). They were just Indians. I always used to think India was one of the finest country. Then ... I grew up, people here didn't!
PS: It is us who make India. We all are equally responsible for such reputation of India in foreign countries. I heard some of them call us as savage there.
