To celebrate the curse ?
This is going to be just a direct question and try to be honest with yourself. How would you react if because of someone else you didn't top the exam or didn't come first in some event? It was someone else's fault. Everybody knew it but still no one could help it. Will you celebrate your second position or will you grumble/curse that person? Curse at your luck? Curse God?
I think many others along with me would just sit and feel dejected about the event. Maybe self pity. But there was this person who showed rather than feeling dejected, you can celebrate, you can feel happy about what you have. It could have been worse. Here goes his story ..
Vanderlei De Lima of Brazil was leading the men's marathon at the Athens Olympic games in 2004 when he was abruptly bumped off the course by a spectator. De Lima not only lost precious seconds during the incident. He also lost his rhythm and had to recover mentally. He would eventually be overtaken by two runners who would go on to take the Gold and Silver. De Lima shared his joy with the world as he approached the finish line. This exemplary outlook earned De Lima many admirers. He was awarded the Pierre De Coubertin medal for exemplifying true spirit of sportsmanship.
"When I entered the stadium, I was so happy that I had already forgotten the episode... Its bronze but means gold."
Its no point telling how hard it is to settle for something less than what you deserve because of someone else. We can just try to look up to such personality. Make them feel that they did get Gold indeed.
