The one with the Chhapaak!

Earlier, I used to write a lot about my political views and used to be quite vocal about them. Since past one year, it has become a tedious work and a full time job to speak up. You get people of all kinds either lashing out or supporting you. There is an extreme opinion harsh reactions from people since social media has increased. There is no middle line. So, I refrained from posting anything till I was clear about it. I just let my peers know about my opinion which is playing bit safe.

Recently, I saw a post being shared around:

Since the release of this trailer, this movie has created a buzz. People were excited and looking forward very much to watch this movie because of the unique content and how much it emphasizes on acid attack victims in India. This indeed is a very important issue.

I am sure most of the readers might know about this news but just for some readers who are not aware of the situation in our country, I will just put down an unbiased scenario in short terms.

There are some protests going on in India (especially Delhi). Initially it was due to CAA/CAB. Now it is because the JNU students were attacked in broad daylight by some masked goons (off record of some political party youth wing). The police were right outside the university gates and they did not take any action against this. So the students went on a protests.

The initial protests were regarding some political move agreed. But now the protest is all about the assault on students and teachers of this university. Some people might not be able to see but there is a difference. Whether you like or hate, whether you are against or pro some political bill, assault on students and teachers in broad daylight is absolutely blasphemous.

Most of the celebrities refrained from commenting on CAA/ CAB because they do influence a lot of people and they might not want to be in bad favor of any political party. But this assault was not something which was tolerable by Deepika Padukone. She went and stood with the students of JNU in a silent protest. She did not speak anything or commented or posted. No promotions were made.

Still, a lot of people were affected by this. Her being a mega star made some people stir. They thought she is taking side. Some people even made horrible comments about throwing acid on her. Some people just feel this is for promotions.

Firstly, Deepika Padukone is a mega star in this time and age. She does not need to take part in protests for her promotions. All she did was stood in solidarity with the students. The assault was horrendous. Secondly, you are not going to watch and making people boycott this movie by such posts is absolutely foolish and immature. Her movies will run without your support. The content of her movie is very strong and noble. This posts shows how intolerable you are and your mentality. There is no middle ground. People cannot differentiate between a political opinion and a job. Her job is to make movies. She is good at it since a decade. Just because she has a view, she should not be successful? Based on what people think about her opinion?

PS: Think before you posts such rubbish.

Dedicated to,
Deepika Padukone,
Thank You for reading,

  1. So true Hetu. Social media has made people's mind's run riot. We ought to be mindful of every word we utter as words have a deep impact.
