Nepotism is everywhere...

Nepotism is everyone’s favorite topic these days and I was like why not …

I read an article of Mr. Sunil Shetty saying “Is my son or daughter not allowed to dream of becoming an actor just because their father is an actor” and it hit me. We all at one point of our life want to be our like our father/mother. They are our first point of contact when asked what you want to do in life. Maybe someone will say a businessman like my father/mother, maybe a doctor, teacher anything. But those are the very first lines I am sure most of you would have thought of at one point.

Naturally when their offspring want to follow their father/mothers footstep into same industry whichever it may be, every parent tries to help them, guide them. It’s completely normal and fair. Outsiders who are trying to make it all by themselves will have it tough with no such privilege and guidance. Again, I would like to point out, IN ANY FIELD. If my father has a family business and its going well, and if I have a liking of that field, why will I not take my father’s help? Because I like making my life difficult? My father too might have competitors, some old, some new who started from scratch and all of them gave their blood, sweat and every ounce to reach at the point they are. If I get a head start, if I get a certain privilege, why someone suddenly calls out “CHEATING” like a small child.

This is life, nobody begins from the same start line and not everyone has the same finish line. You cannot make it or even hope that someone will give-up on the already existing family business (only if they are interested) just because it’s not fair for others. There is a very strong misconception here that a self made man is more skillful than those who had help. We have great examples of people who are a product of nepotism and made it big in terms of money, skill and respect. If Dhirubhai Ambani would have decided to not take Mukesh Ambani in his business, Reliance might not have done so great. A shopkeeper hires his nephews/nieces to work in his shop not because they are talented but because they are trustworthy (in most cases). Skill can be developed. You cannot say that about trust.

In terms of movie, we have The Kapoor family where they collectively have so many national awards for their portrayal in cinema. Some family members made it super big, some we don’t even know exists. Try to understand, a movie is a producer’s business. He invests in it. He can decide to employ anyone as he deems fit. He will make a profit or loss based on how the people are going to accept it. If Rohit Shetty makes Scorpio jump in every movie, it is because people watch it and accept it. However stupid it might sound to himself, if it works why not?

When a father leaves his house to his son/daughter in heritage, that too my friend is called as nepotism. Why only his son/daughter? Think before taking a part in meme and disliking/liking stuff just because it’s a trend. It is very easy to be a part of a stupid movement. Treat cinema as a business like any other. There are too many people involved in a single movie and not just the actors.

I am not gonna say they have had their "STRUGGLE". Its much easier for them but why is an easy choice associated with something negative?
